Rules Of War Are Generally Observed
Washington June 18 The Axis powers generally observe provisions of the Geneva convention governing treatment of prisoners of war and hospital ships but executing American aviators who bombed Tokyo violated the convention. Undersecretary of War Patterson says the United States has abided by the agreement and will adhere. Highlights from Army hearings on the supply bill include vast overseas transport, renegotiated contracts saving 1.1 billion, monthly War Department expenditures near 6 billion, daily Quartermaster food shipments of 50 million pounds, and future Air Corps output plans of 80 000 pilots 12 000 bombardiers and 18 000 navigators. Cost to outfit a ground infantry soldier is 299.47 dollars with rifle at 70 dollars. Ordnance notes a new powerful but costly explosive.

The Frederick Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution celebrated Flag Day with a shawl and fan pageant at the Evangelical Church. Attended by 150, the event featured nearly 100 shawls from many countries, two antique wedding dresses, and a display of carved and painted fans. A white silk shawl once tied to Francis Scott Key and a prayer shawl loaned by Rabbi Hirschberg drew special interest.
