Mississippi Truck Crash Kills 9 Year Olds On I-70
A Monday dawn crash on eastbound Interstate 70 near Monument Road killed Kevin Joyner, 9, of Gautier Mississippi, when a speeding driver, Bill Hooker, 20, of Quantico Virginia, rear collided with a Mack truck. Christina Spears, 17, and her 2 year old son Kevon Spears were injured. Another passenger, Martin Butchee, 20, was in the emergency room. The truck driver, David Sherry, and the truck driver was uninjured. I-70 was closed for hours while detours were set.

Union Bridge woman killed by van on I-270
A Union Bridge woman, Melinda Jean Snow, 31, was struck and killed while standing on the northbound shoulder of I-270 near Md 8 at 3:58 am. Wanda Brown of Harrisburg, Pa., drove a 1996 Dodge van onto the shoulder, hit the guardrail and Snow, then collided with Snow’s Subaru before overturning. Brown and three passengers were taken to Frederick Memorial Hospital. Snow’s passenger Larrissa Ledbetter, 26, was flown to Suburban Hospital and released. I-270 remained closed about three hours.

Five family members injured in I-70 crash near South Street
Five members of a Frederick family were injured late Sunday when a 1996 Ford Escort left I-70 near the South Street interchange and rolled down an embankment. Leslie Keys 27 was flown to Suburban Hospital in Bethesda but was not in the hospital. Chelsea 7, Zachary 4, and Carrisa 5 were flown to Children’s Hospital in Washington and released.

Civil War Medical Exhibit Opens at National Museum
The National Museum of Civil War Medicine opened its first Civil War Medical Exhibit with a ribbon cutting on Saturday and more than 230 visitors toured the museum on Sunday. The City of Frederick owns the building at 48 East Patrick Street, and museum leaders seek $5 million for gut renovation to house archives libraries and research spaces with a new climate control system. Museum director Burt Kummerow said about $1 million has been raised but is already spent on operations and capital improvements. The exhibit emphasizes that disease killed more Union and Confederate soldiers than battle and includes artifacts, portraits, instruments, films, and uniforms to portray medical history and personal stories from the era.
