Optimists Hear Talk On Dropouts In Maryland
Dr. Percy Williams of Maryland State Education told the Braddock Heights Optimist Club that dropouts are a national issue and must be fought. He cited 96 000 graduates and 13 000 dropouts in 1960 61 state schools, noted dropouts can lead to crime and unemployment, and urged improving reading, counseling, and evening schooling. Fellow panelists Paul Fogle and Paul Stroup supported reading remediation, targeted education, and avoiding stereotyping while stressing organized skill development and specialist teachers.
