Barley in rations for dairy cattle explained
Extension agents Allen B Bryant and George D Wood describe barley as a high energy dairy feed. Ground texture, barley weight affect palatability and nutrient value. full weight barley equals shelled corn for energy and protein, while light weight barley lowers energy and protein. They note barley can comprise up to 75 percent of grain mixes and emphasize energy, digestible protein, palatability, and economic substitutions using the Petersen method, with corn and soybean meal as standards.

Tough Turf From Zoysia HOME GARDENER'S Yotelook
Meyer Zoysia grass provides a convenient lawn repair option hardy in most regions. Plant any time from early spring to fall, tolerates slopes and poor soils including beachside salinity. It crowds other grasses, grows from plugs set a foot apart, and resists weeds when established though it greens slowly, turns brown in frost, and regrows later in spring.

Survey Indicates Fall Cattle Feed Prices May Drop
PHILADELPHIA based Farm Journal survey of cowmen feeders and bankers finds feed cattle cheaper this fall, with steer calves expected at 19 to 22 dollars per hundredweight for feeders and 21 to 25 dollars for cowmen sellers. Feeder prices now 4 to 7 dollars lower than a year ago, marking a sharp decline since 1952-53. Bruce Russell says calves should be in strongest demand, cost less per head, and suit bankers for equity recovery. Jim W. Mitchell notes 15 million more cattle since 1957 require 6 million head to be worked off, potentially over three years.
