Open Way For Funeral Homes Plans Pass City Meeting

The Board of Zoning Appeals approved an amendment allowing funeral establishments in residential districts after a lengthy effort sparked by a mortuary proposal at the Valentine property on North Market Street. Protests delayed progress, a new petition was added to the city records, and a hearing before the Zoning Appeals board is slated. The same meeting authorized banning door to door peddling per a Supreme Court ruling, authorized lease termination for the A and P parking lot, and directed routine municipal business including tennis court improvements and SPCA shelter review.
