Church Fate Undecided In Lewistown Conference
The Methodist Church in Lewistown debated the fate of the old Hill Church in a one hour session at the Lewistown Methodist Church. A plan to hold further meetings over the next year was agreed, with about 40 attendees including the Hill Church trustees listening to Dr. Asbury Smith. The 195 year old building, a historic monument, has not hosted regular services since the 1940s and may be torn down though the Hill Church cemetery remains active under the trustees. Residents voiced opposition to demolition while Rev. Richard D. Thompson distances himself from future meetings. Members of the Hill Church trustees include Albert M. Powell and Alva Rice among others. The Luther League of Mannor Parish elected new officers and mapped summer plans including socials and outings.
