Former tire plant revival plan proposed for Cumberland
A Cumberland Tire & Rubber group led by ex Kelly Springfield president proposes reviving the Allegany County plant to hire about 400 workers. The county, owner of the idled facility since 1987, weighs the plan with caution after a Colorado man’s $25,000 option deal and related theft and securities fraud charges. The proposal envisions bias ply truck tires, 100 workers at opening, 440 by year five, $8.85 hourly wage plus benefits, and $18 million startup and working capital funded by financial institutions.
