Cat Bite Sends Boy To Hospital
City police round up a gray striped cat after a three year old boy was bitten Saturday morning while separating fighting cats on Wyngate Drive. The boy was treated at Frederick Memorial Hospital and remains feverish as rabies shots have not yet begun. Two other three year olds bitten this month included Derek Wirgau of Middletown who received antirabies shots but allergies halted the treatment.

Five Hurt In County Auto Crashes
Five people were injured in two separate one car crashes early today in the county. Ronald H. Lucas, 34 of Hagerstown was admitted with a fractured left leg after a car driven by Henry D. Burkett, 33, ran off US 340 then struck an embankment. Burkett faced reckless driving charges. A second crash on Md 81 west of Thurmont injured Timothy L. Harbaugh, 20, Donald M. Harbaugh, 22, and Clarence W. Pryor, 34, all treated for lacera tions and abrasions at Waynesboro General Hospital. Charges pending against Timothy Harbaugh. The damaged 1962 coupe was extensively damaged.

12 Percent Of U S Adults Are Heavy Drinkers
Los Angeles AP reports a nationwide survey finding 12 percent of American adults are heavy drinkers. Dr Ira Cisin of George Washington University defines heavy drinking as one daily drink or five or more in a session weekly. The study, 2,750 interviews, shows more drinkers in New England and Middle Atlantic states, with Pacific Coast in third and Deep South lowest. Men drink more than women. most drinkers are 20s and 30s, higher incomes, urban areas. Religions with pro drinking views have higher consumption including Episcopalians Catholics and Jews.

A 19 year old Baltimore Skydiving Club member Michael C. Hipsley fell 3000 feet to a farm field near Gist after his parachute failed to open. He was the son of Lieut Milton A. Hipsley of the Baltimore Police. The death came as the family prepared for another brother’s funeral. The incident occurred six miles south of Westminster.
