Fashion swindle in Emmitburg ends in losses for locals
The Emmitburg Chronicle reports a con man calling himself W. J. Young or similar aliases swindled about twenty to twenty five local women by selling a fashion book and tidy at 50 cents. Subscriptions were never delivered though receipts were given. Letters from Standard Fashion Company in New York label the man a swindler. The town cautions others to avoid similar schemes in the future.
