Budget Hold Up Delays School Board Cash Line
Frederick County commissioners delayed approval of the board of education 69.6 million dollar fiscal 1986 budget over an 81 thousand dollar dispute in the salaries category. Budget officer Harold Keller Jr noted two possibilities for the error: wrong number of positions or wrong money. Commissioners pledged to resolve the discrepancy before next Tuesday’s expected vote, while a split board blamed the other side for the mess.

Hijacked airliner exploded after hostages released
A Jordanian airliner hijacked in Beirut released 66 passengers and crew, including two Americans, before the plane blew up. Sky marshals were reportedly in custody, but conflicting accounts said they were killed inside the aircraft. The Boeing 727 shattered, leaving only the tail with the Hashemite crown. The hijackers, Shiite Muslims from Lebanon's Amal militia, sought Palestinian guerrilla withdrawal from Beirut and accused Arafat's PLO of sheltering them.
