Minnow swallowing linked to dangerous worm infection in humans
Johns Hopkins researcher reports that swallowing live minnows can cause peritonitis from round worm parasites carried by the fish. Three recent Baltimore area cases required surgery or ER care, with up to 11 inch worms found in digestive tracts. enforcement action cited in Frederick County while 40 percent of fishermen tested showed infection.
