Magnetic Highway Sweepers Proposed for Maryland Roads
Leonard S Kolmer of the Automobile Club of Maryland urged the State Roads Commission to deploy magnetic highway sweepers to collect metal debris. The current method uses a bar magnet unit on trucks costing about 3300 dollars, as Kansas data show magnet units gathered 168000 tons of scrap metal. Maryland Roads Commissioner William F Childs Jr said the proposal would be studied.
