City Officials Choose Tax Basis Amid Old Assessment Debate
City Register Louis M. Nixdorff and the Board of Aldermen debated levy basis. They will likely base the tax rate on the old assessment rather than the recent reassessment, citing state and county law. Exemptions reduce the taxable base to about 5.9 million, guiding a levy near 35,938 dollars. Westminster considers the newer basis, while Frederick benefits from the old-base method.
