Cornerstone Laid For South End Civic Recreation Center
A public ceremony at Scholl's Lane and Burek Street marked the placing of the Cornerstone of the South End Civic Association fieldhouse. Officials including Aldermen Bartzgis Burall and Staley, City Engineer Walter, and Mayor Derr spoke of community benefits and future events at the center. The gathering honored volunteers and previewed the South End Civic Association Fair to run July 14–19 with exhibits from the Atomic Energy Commission and the Second Army Band.
