Smoked Sturgeon Ties Lead to Graft Inquiry
Senate investigations wrapped a Chicago millionaire’s scope as Harry Lev admitted giving about 2500 dollars worth of fancy smoked sturgeon to military procurement officials including Brig. Gen. I M Bethel, while denying bribes. Bethel received 25 pounds of sturgeon from 1952 to 1953, Lev called him a fine, honest man who never asked for the fish. Lev also said he handed out uniform taps to Army Quartermaster personnel, and faced questions about possible payments to Air Force Captain Raymond Wool.
