No Bolt Planned by Anti Hoover in June Fight

Kansas City reports tension over the Hoover bid for the Republican nomination. Opponents insist there will be no bolt if Hoover is nominated and seek to persuade delegates someone from the agricultural Middle West should be the standard bearer. Discussions include Mellon leading conventions talks and a possible Coolidge draft to avert a split.

FIGHTING ALONG PAIHO RIVER NEAR TIENTSIN

Fighting started along the Paiho river above Tangku northwest of Tientsin with continuous fire. River traffic halted as two Japanese steamers escorted by a gunboat were forced to turn back. Chinese police at Paku fled. Italian marines were sent to Taku to guard foreign pilots' families. Miss Joan Manning Saunders, a 21 year old Cornish artist with no painting lessons, has had a work accepted for this year’s Royal Academy.
