Arson Suspected In Six Area Barn Fires
Maryland State Police say six barn fires in Frederick area since early April are probably arson, with two months of investigation yielding no solid leads. Trooper William L. Newcomer says all six fires, concentrated around New Market and New London, remain unsolved and may threaten homes if the pattern continues.

Flax Seeks Commissioner's Seat in Emmitsburg
J Norman Flax an Emmitsburg Democrat has filed to run for the Board of County Commissioners. A seven year town council member he won a third term last year with about 60 percent. A Dayton Ohio native he moved to Emmitsburg in 1930 started a real estate rental business and has served on the council since 1959. He is married with three children and active in the Lutheran Church. In 1962 he led the north county Mahoney campaign HQ for the statewide ticket.

Ex-Policeman Arrested For Bank Robbery in Virginia
A 39 year old Fairfax contractor and former Montgomery County policeman Charles Abbott Lauritzen was charged with robbing the Long Meadow Maryland National Bank in Hagerstown. FBI agent Edwin R. Tully said $8,061 recovered plus a .38 revolver. Lauritzen, self employed in cement contracting, resigned from Montgomery County police in 1954. He will be arraigned Wednesday before U.S. Commissioner Stanley King in Alexandria Virginia.

Woman Helps Prepare Over 950 Diplomas in County
Jefferson area resident Mrs. Ruby E. Hawker organized and processed more than 950 diplomas for county graduates. She began in February as secretary to the county supervisor of English, taking over after December work by Mrs. Betty Stull. Diplomas were finalized after late May with ongoing updates through March and April and sent to a diploma company in Red Wing Minnesota.
