Brutal Ravisher Lynched at Prince Frederick

A mob in Prince Frederick Calvert county hanged Charles Wilton a colored man accused of assaulting a five year old girl near her father's home. The mob left a message on the tree denouncing such crimes and urging swift punishment. Sheriff Anderson reported the vigilante act as the local courts fail to deter repeat offenses.

Maxwell's Plans for the Future in Jail Cell

A reporter found Maxwell in his jail cell reading a book on Saturday and asked about the verdict. He said the ruling postpones his plans to lecture or enter a dime museum to repay Preller's heirs and practice law with his brother after a new trial. He remained confident of acquittal.
