Brown v Board of Education Civil Rights Landmark in Topeka
The Brown case began with Oliver and Linda Brown in Topeka Kansas in 1951 challenging school segregation. The Supreme Court ruled in 1954 that separate facilities are inherently unequal and set the stage for desegregation across the nation, while ongoing battles and later revisions extended federal oversight and enforcement. Linda Brown Smith leads a renewed effort for equal schooling, joining other parents in the 1979 Topeka case updates.
