Jubilant CIO Opens Drive On Huge GM

Walter Reuther said he would personally lead GM talks aiming to match Ford terms. GM faces a midnight five year contract expiry and a union decision on walkout or extended bargaining time. John W. Livingston pushed for a settlement better than Ford’s, noting GM’s ability to afford it. A GM strike would test UAW solidarity and impact auto leadership in the market.
