War Close To Hanoi Report From Indochina
Indochina June 6 Three Corsairs roared eastward over Hanoi as 500 pounders and French artillery sounded nearby. Civilians and a cafe crowd paid little heed while rebels press the delta perimeter and Dien Bien Phu memory looms. Hanoi’s 600000 residents see danger but many remain uninvolved, with civil life continuing amid nightly mines and rail clearing. Rebels breach posts nightly. French and Vietnamese respond, but the delta’s defense remains pivotal.
