Self Conceit is the Gift that Fools Us All
Borothy Dix Bats delves into egotism and vanity noting Benjamin Franklin’s quip that egotists have it all. The piece weighs whether self conceit should be fostered in children, contrasting braggarts with modest individuals and arguing conceit can feel like a divine gift to some. It ends with a separate brief note: eighteen soldiers killed and eight injured in an Army truck crash near Nashville.

Sun Exposure Hazards Warn of Severe Skin Injury
The article warns that excessive sun exposure can damage the skin, causing sunburn and pigment changes. It notes that light from the sun includes ultraviolet and visible rays, with intensity higher in summer and at higher altitudes. Sensitive individuals, especially blondes, are more prone to injury, and severe burns can trigger fever, nausea, and systemic effects.
Preventive skin care against sunburns and damage
The text emphasizes preventive treatment for sunburns as best. After damage, palliative care is late. Wet Epsom salt dressings help, and when blisters are extensive, certain acids and dressings are used. Gradual sun exposure builds protection. Ointments, oils, petroleum, and filters offer limited screening, but sunburn risks remain serious and a tan’s drawbacks outweigh benefits.
