In New Haven June 5 a distraught Edwin Tomlinson of Squantuck near Birmingham shot himself at his daughter's grave in the Squantuck cemetery. The double barrel gun, fired by a crooked stick, blew away the back of his head. Tomlinson, wealthy lumber dealer with Tomlinson Brothers, leaves a daughter who is now prostrated and feared to go insane.
The Hotel arrivals column lists guests at City Hotel and Carlin House since yesterday noon. Notable names include C. C. Bartgis R. D. Hughes Robi C. Razin S. A. Cooper F. J. Barnitz W. E. Caer J. 8. Martin and many other travelers from Balto Philadelphia Waterville N Y New York Boston Hanover Md and the surrounding county totaling 59 guests.
The movement of the Treasury balances points to a probable reduction of about 85,000,000 in the public debt for May. Since May 1, gold in the Treasury has increased 3,140,000, of which 2,509,618 was earned in the last week. Silver holdings rose 404,967 in the past week and 1,703,922 in the past month, with 1,031,421 in standard silver dollars. It appears about 2,000,000 standard dollars have been added to circulation. Cash in gold and silver rose 4,909,271 for the month, while notes and certificates outstanding grew nearly as much at 4,642,983. Increases include paid certificates 1,124,400 in silver certificates, 1,153,710, and legal tender notes not held by the Treasury 2,584,173. Besides bond redemptions, the Treasury gained about 267,000 on cash and note accounts.
The Woman Suffrage Party county committee elected Mrs Dr Clemence 8 Losier as president Miss E Blake as secretary Miss J McAdams as treasurer and Miss C Scoonmaker as vice president at its annual meeting. Resolutions denounce fifteen city assemblymen who voted down the suffrage bill and urge constituents to retire them. The group also thanked Speaker Sheard and General Husted for their support.
