A Frederick man, James M. Lorenzo, 36, remained in critical condition with burns over at least 70 percent of his body after reportedly setting himself on fire in his wife’s Colonial Way home. Cpl. Richard W. Byler helped extinguish the flames. a police officer suffered minor burns. The incident followed a separation and court action, with Lorenzo possessing a court-ordered eviction and facing divorce proceedings. Local lotteries and regional draws are also listed in the report.
Frederick County Circuit Judge G Edward Dwyer Jr denied Evergreen Chevron’s injunction to restore the team to the Midgetown Slow Pitch Softball League. The judge ruled league rules were followed, noting the team forfeited four games for missing nine players, triggering expulsion and loss of fees. No trial date set.
Frederick City Police arrested Calvin A. Little and Benjamin L. Rice in Operation Crack Down, bringing arrests to 165 in 125 days. Little, 20, of Washington DC, held $739 cash. Rice, 19, of Fort Washington, charged with cocaine related offenses and alleged crack sale. Both held on bond in Frederick County Detention Center.
