Supreme Court Rules Artist Owns Copyright In Third World America Case
The Supreme Court sided with artist James Reid, finding a Washington homeless group CCNV did not automatically own the sculpture's copyright. The decision orders lower courts to determine if CCNV and founder Mitch Snyder may share in rights for the work depicting homelessness titled Third World America. The ruling emphasizes the 1976 copyright law and a work made for hire doctrine.
