Frederick County Jobless Rate Falls Under Four Percent
Frederick County posted a 3.3 percent jobless rate in April, down from 4.4 in March, with Maryland statewide at 4.8 percent. The drop followed unseasonably warm weather and a rebound in outside work across construction, agriculture, trucking and manufacturing. County civilian labor force eased to 71,454 from 73,245 in March, as officials predicted continued summer hiring, even as graduating seniors may face job delays. Maryland counties also showed declines, with Montgomery at 2.4 percent and Somerset at 17.9 percent, while national unemployment fell to 7.1 percent.
