The weatherman predicts temperatures in the 90s with high near 92 this afternoon and continued hot humid conditions Tuesday. Lows will stay in the mid 60s with south winds around 10 mph. a chance of late day or evening thundershowers is noted. No rainfall in Frederick County since the month began. normal June rainfall is 3.60 inches.
A Rockville woman, Myke Anderson, was elected Maryland Amvets state commander, the first woman to head the Maryland veterans group. The 43 delegates at Middletown also chose officers including George R. Lanner as first vice commander and John Powers as executive director. The convention elected several other state officers and endorsed Anderson as a potential National Commander candidate. NEW YORK (AP) stock market opened irregularly lower in moderate trading.
Long time farming at the Montevue Home for the Aged is set to end this year as county commissioners, led by Lawrence A. Dorsey, decide the operation is no longer economically feasible. The last beef cattle were sold last month, and crops will be harvested for a final time this season. The pasture is leased to a farmer, and the equipment may be sold in autumn. The land may be used for a new county office building to ease overcrowding at Winchester Hall and the courthouse. The exact plan remains undecided.
Frederick City greets its first Black police officer, Kenneth D. Ambush, 25, a native of Doubs and lifelong Frederick County resident. Appointed by Mayor E Paul Magaha and confirmed by the Board of Aldermen, Ambush will complete six weeks of training after a six year stint at Hazelton Laboratories in Falls Church. He is married to Cora Whiting and they expect their first child. Ambush is a Lincoln High School graduate, former basketball player and varsity track athlete, and member of Fredericktonian Lodge AF and AM and Pleasant View Methodist Church. His parents live in Pleasant View where his father is a retired railroad foreman.
Premier Nguyen Cao Ky's military regime adds 10 civilians to join 10 generals in the ruling junta. The change aims to honor a Buddhist Church pact amid protests from the anti-Ky faction. The list spans church representatives, Catholics, and Cao Dai and Hoa Hao members. Elections for a Constitutional Assembly loom, with debates over turning the body into a governing legislature and shortening the regime's life. The premier signaled a possible mid next year stepping down, though the junta may reject the commission's advice.

Thurmont Job Corps Center may end up under Interior supervision if a planned program revision is approved by Congress. The program faces staff cuts and a 20 percent enrollment reduction as White House directed reforms seek to dismember Job Corps among four agencies in 1968.
Two underage Job Corps participants from Oklahoma were found guilty of possession of alcoholic beverages. Robert J. Bassler and Thomas J. Patterson pleaded guilty. Magistrate Stanley Y. Bennett suspended sentences of 25 dollars plus costs for each. The center may expel them or impose its own fine. The Job Corps will cooperate with Frederick County officials to ensure charges do not remain in the area.
Samuel Veney, a convicted murderer of a Baltimore City police officer, will appear in Frederick County Circuit Court this afternoon to process the remaining charges called off. State's Attorney Rothenhoefer cited the move as a technical step at the Baltimore City prosecutor's request while Veney's death sentence remains under appeal and execution stayed. Earl Veney, his brother, has been convicted of assault with intent to kill Lt. Maskell.
