Washington June Roosevelt and aides tackled rubber and gasoline as about a hundred House members rallied against nationwide rationing without proven need. A MacLeish hint of a forthcoming statement followed a resolution opposing rationing, while a committee was empowered to map necessary steps. Senate hearings faulted the War Production Board on planning for alcohol use in rubber, and Eastman warned tires would be scarce for years making rationing the likeliest conservation step.
