Family Rehabilitated By CAS Off Relief Rolls
Frederick County Children’s Aid Society met at Winchester Hall and praised Executive Secretary Mrs. William C. Roderick for rehabilitating a four child family, taking them off relief rolls. The full board, led by President Charles Me. C. Mathias, will resume meetings October 1. An annual fall directors’ meeting with foster parents was set for November 3 at Creagerstown. The case involved three boys ages 9 to 32 and a 16-year-old sister placed in foster homes. the sister was sent to her father, a farm laborer in Montgomery County, while the mother faced an 18 month suspended sentence. The agency reported nursing funds shortfalls and noted wages were insufficient to cover $63 monthly foster costs. The 16-year-old daughter was rehabilitated to care for the father’s tenant house, enabling younger boys to live with their father and work for his former employer, removing them from federal and county relief rolls. Mrs. Roderick attended the National Conference of Social Work in Atlantic City in May. The local agency took in ten children in May and currently has ten on a waiting list.
