Century Club water pipe preserved 100 years in Frederick
Frederick officials and Cast Iron Pipe Association representatives verified that the city still uses a water main 100 or more years old. The Silver Spring line segment, 103 years old per records, was uncovered by Water Superintendent William J. Davis with City Engineer W. Raymond Welter on the Harry Free farm west of Frederick. An official certificate will note the line as part of the old wet Spring system, abandoned when the springs dried up, yet still feeding sections of the Wilson Avenue development via a reverse flow.
