The 1983 General Assembly failed to resolve the tag issue, with calls for broad adoption to promote Maryland. Fort Detrick drew a Michigan native to Frederick life
Frank Wagner, from Grand Rapids and a Michigan State University alumnus, moved to Frederick when the Army sent him to Fort Detrick. He retired in 1979 after a long career in the military and civil service, and settled with his wife Connie to pursue rock polishing, photography, library volunteering, travel, gardening, and ongoing courses. He recalls Betty Ford as a classmate years earlier and notes the area's growth from a rural, housing-short town to a settled community.
