School Levy Raises Tax Rate One Cent

Washington County Maryland fixed the 1937 38 tax rate at $1.07 per $100 of assessed value, up one cent from last year. Increased salaries for teachers and new school construction costs raised the levy by about 0.01 dollars, offset partly by eliminating election costs and a larger tax base. The year's levy is based on $7 for the district and shows higher overall school expenses. An East Indian plant used to stupefy fish is noted in a separate factual aside.
