Army tightens draft standards amid rising disqualification
The Army reports 37 percent draft rejections last year with higher expectations for 42 percent this year as weapons and equipment require smarter recruits. Army studies show many failures due to low mental caliber and menial-task limits. Marines and Navy also report sizable mentally slow or marginal intelligence personnel. Civilian impact noted as industries seek capable workers. Collateral forfeitures in Magisterial Court include several intoxication and conduct charges. Rice case continued.
