Old Records Up In Trial
In Baltimore on June 2 1938 records of Congress were introduced as witnesses for four Maryland wheat growers led by Louis Shaffer Sr and his sons Lindsay Joseph and Louis Shaffer. They challenge compulsory entry of federal agricultural inspectors claiming the Agricultural Adjustment Act permits entry only with owner consent and argue the government seeks an unlawful injunction to force inspections. Judge Thomson weighs the injunction as defense questions inspector appointment validity and procedural irregularities.
