Washington June 3 The Philippine government bill drew little floor interest as Mason Illinois urged equal treatment for Filipinos and self governance alongside Cubans. Other speakers included Hoar Foraker Cullom Bacon Patterson Teller Carmack Proctor. Amendments to lands disposition were also debated.
In Wilkes Barre and across the Lackawanna region, United Mine Workers orders to shut down engineers firemen and pumpmen at collieries with the eight hour day were partially obeyed. Companies kept pumps running, while labor and management clash over numbers and future leverage. Sheriff protection plans were set in Luzerne as officials moved to prevent unrest.

Chicago June 3 police faced violent crowds as teamsters and sympathizers fought in the West Side and at Crosby Street Little Hell. Officers with revolvers and clubs repelled stone and mud throws, injuring several and arresting others aboard meat wagons. Two more clashes followed near Twelfth and State streets as meat was moved from packing houses Froehling Heppe and Kettlinger Hofler.
