Truman Tydings Convention Pledges Maryland Delegation
Maryland Democrats in Baltimore pledged 20 national convention votes for President Harry S. Truman and backing for Senator Millard E. Tydings as a vice presidential candidate. The move made Maryland the first Southern state to commit to Truman at the Philadelphia convention and follows a long resolution praising the President and warning against an inept Republican Congress. Senator Tydings, presenting the resolution, said he was not actively seeking the Vice Presidency.
