Hood College Seniors See War Time Engagements

A Hood College survey of 88 seniors shows about half know where they will be this summer. Sixteen have engagement rings with many brides-to-be planning marriages near camps or at home, often to be in the armed forces or closely allied. The war accelerates job prospects, especially for math and science graduates, with graduate school plans largely set aside. One student will enter medical school after graduation. Summer plans shift due to fuel and travel limits, and many will work or pursue immediate employment.

Maryland Proposes Reducing Appeals Court to Five Members

Maryland Governor’s judiciary commission proposes cutting the State Appeals Court from eight to five members with duties limited to appellate work except in emergencies. The plan, to be phased after 1957, would place two judges from Baltimore City and three from counties, replacing the current seven chief judges. Approval by the General Assembly and voter ratification would be required. The commission notes Maryland’s current practice of giving Appeals Court judges trial duties.
