James K. Jones Dies After Short Illness
Former U S senator James K Jones of Arkansas died at his Washington residence after a brief illness. A leading Democrat, he chaired the Democratic National Committee during Bryan campaigns and served in the Senate from 1885 to 1905, retiring in 1903, later practicing law in Washington. The Mississippian by birth fought for the Confederacy as a private and held state senate leadership before his U S tenure.
