Drunken Driving Cases Heard in Peop les Court
Three motorists faced drunken driving charges in a lengthy session before Magistrate H Reese Shoemaker Jr in Peoples Court. John Hite of Hedgesville and Monroel Beall of the U S Navy were convicted. Beall received 200 dollars plus costs for drunken driving and 25 dollars for reckless driving. Calvin Weast of Rockville was held for a record after conviction for drunken driving and operating on a revoked license. Beall’s case stemmed from a late Saturday night side swipe with a Potomac Edison bus on the Yellow Springs road, injuring passenger Carrie Linton. Beall, who said he had beer four hours earlier and was visiting family after overseas service, faced a heavier fine in lieu of jail. Hite was fined 150 dollars and costs for running a red light and driving on the wrong side of the crest. Weast was cited after police found his car mid‑road at U S 15 and Lily Pons Road. A Baltimore motorist, Roland Roles, was fined at least 100 dollars for operating on a revoked license, after being stopped for a minor violation. Additional fines were imposed on Leonard Mercer for operating without a license and displaying another car’s tags, and Leroy Cooper received a 5 dollar minimum fine for speed. Several others faced fines or suspended sentences for traffic and related offenses.
