Senate tax bill splits windfall relief with oil interests
Senate Democrats back a $47 billion package that uses windfall tax relief on oil profits to aid landowners and oil producers, while clamping down on commodity straddles alongside a contrasting House plan. The dispute involves tax savings estimates and exemptions for professional traders, signaling a clash between branches and the Reagan administration over revenue priorities. A separate local note reports the 28th Martin reunion at Thurmont Community Park with community leaders, games, prizes, and a large turnout.
