Casualties Delayed By Wrong Addresses
Washington July 30 At least 10 percent of casualty notifications are delayed due to relatives not keeping the War Department advised of address changes. Maj. Gen. James A Ulio said 200 to 250 messages daily go to wrong addresses and urged emergency addressees to promptly report temporary changes while permanent changes go to the Adjutant General’s office. Despite difficulties, searches were thorough and messages were delayed over 48 hours. About 175000 casualty notifications handled with only a small number undelivered to urgent addressees or substitutes.
