Navy trims submarine building program in 1945 plan

The Navy announced a cutback in submarine construction citing fewer submarines than expected and the need to allocate resources to eight other ship and weapons types. The fleet is believed to exceed 200 submarines, with reductions coming from delaying end‑stage builds while sustaining current completion schedules for seven to eight months. The overall Navy program will grow through early 1945, guided by urgent needs such as aircraft carriers, cruisers, fast assault ships, tankers, rockets, and 40 millimeter guns.

If rotenone is unavailable, use fixed nicotine dust per directions, and burn all infested stalks next autumn since borers winter in residual trash. A simple squash bug trap uses thin wood pieces near vines, lifted daily to crush the insects. Maintain regular spraying or dusting.
