Lameness in Dairy Cattle Linked to Housing and Herdsmanship
Research presented at the American Dairy Science Association meeting shows annual U.S. losses from clinical lameness exceed 140 dollars per cow. University of Florida researchers find outside rear claws bear most stress, with hoof growth tied to weight on claws. Key factors linked to lameness are housing type and herdsmanship, while feeding, trimming, and farm breeding show little association.
