Maryland adopts 75 hours community service graduation rule

Maryland students will be the first in the nation required to perform community service before high school graduation. The State Board of Education approved 75 hours of service to be phased in over three years, starting with fall 1983 oath-graders, with local districts designing implementation and no additional staff expected.

Hattery Mikulski top fund-raisers in races

In the 6th District, Democrat Thomas Hattery raised 90,091 in the April to June period versus Republican Roscoe Bartlett's 34.90, with Hattery totaling 299,240 year to date. Albrecht to Begin Jail Term in August

Montgomery County police officer Christopher Albrecht age 26 was sentenced to one year in prison for manslaughter. He will begin serving his term on August 12 in a federal prison in Loretto Pennsylvania, with plans to remain in federal custody for safety concerns rather than a state facility.
