NIH Inn Groundbreaking Celebrates Children’s Inn for Ill Kids
At NIH in Bethesda a ceremony marked the planned Children’s Inn to house families of severely ill children undergoing experimental treatment. Funding totals include a $2.3 million donation from Merck and Co and pro bono building work by Alan Kay, with further $2.7 million needed for furnishings and operations. Brenda Small, once told she had a hopeless cancer, now 18, spoke to attendees and fellow patients about perseverance as the project aims to provide free, hotel-like accommodations adjacent to the hospital for up to 36 families at a time.
