Water pressure woes hit Fountaindale in midtown area

Residents in Fountaindale experience intermittent water pressure after a well runs dry and a second well’s pump fails. By Tuesday afternoon most homes had water but pressure remained low in higher elevations. Officials said a new well produced 26 gallons per minute while plans to drill deeper or lower the existing pumping system were under consideration. Environmental health officials warned of potential drought impacts through the coming months.

Three viral meningitis cases confirmed in Washington County

Dr. Robert Chambers of Hagerstown’s Washington County Hospital reports three recent infant meningitis cases, likely community acquired. All infants under two months, one born in Baltimore after a high-risk pregnancy, appear mildly affected with fever listlessness and poor appetite. Illnesses may last seven to ten days. bacterial meningitis is not suspected.

Frederick County OKs nine farms for AG preservation plan

Frederick County commissioners approved nine farms totaling 1525 acres to enter the state agricultural preservation program. The county expects 650000 to 700000 dollars to be spent locally, with 8 million dollars available statewide for development easement purchases this year.
