The First Baptists announce a new church venture on the south side of town meeting at the South End Civic Association building on Burck street. Initial Vacation Bible School runs August 3 to 7 from 9 a.m. to noon, with regular services starting August 9 led by Rev. Robert F. Woodward. Calvin Leatherwood named Sunday School superintendent. staff includes about twenty-five volunteers from First Church. The South End Civic Association building is a two floor facility on Burck street awaiting main auditorium completion.

Russell Lewis Potts, a city police officer since 1957, is to be tried in Circuit Court Friday afternoon at 2 for breaking and entering.
