U S Could Pay Billions More for Defense Says Study
Washington AP The Committee for Economic Development said the United States could afford to spend billions more on defense if needed but urged tighter management. The group supported Eisenhower defense reorganizations and urged civilian control of R&D, better defense careers, reduced special interest pressures, more civilian staffing, and stronger congressional planning. It noted defense outlays could rise to about 15 percent of gross production, near 65 billion dollars yearly, without harming growth. Also reports insured a collision victim and a surge in ready dinner production from 1952 to 1955.
