Woman Who Killed Son Receives Year in Jail
In Pittsfield Massachusetts Gladys Dunn pleaded guilty to second degree murder for shooting her 15 year old son Joseph Dunn Jr. The 1918 case ended after a court opening when Dunn withdrew a not guilty plea and admitted to the killing. Authorities said she intended to kill herself as well and fled to a roof with a revolver. The jury had feared a harsher verdict and Dunn was sent to a state hospital for the criminally insane following the incident at their summer Codust home. Dunn, a New York husband I Allan Dunn widow, was born in California and was the daughter of a wealthy San Francisco art dealer.
