Man charged with seven Montgomery County bank robberies
Police say 39 year old Jeffrey Lynn Johnson of no fixed address was arrested in Washington by FBI agents. He allegedly used note demands in bank robberies across Montgomery and Prince George counties between May 8 and July 24, 1995, targeting American Federal Savings Rockville and several other banks.

Two men arrested on drug charges near Lincoln Apartments
Frederick City Police said Vernal Gillespie, 32, of Frederick, and Samuel Betty, 26, of Baltimore, were charged after attempting to sell crack cocaine to an undercover officer near Lincoln Apartments. Gillespie faced counts of distribution and possession with intent to distribute, plus conspiracy. Betty faced conspiracy charges. Both were held in detention centers in lieu of bonds of 110000 and 60000 respectively.

Amnesty program offered to parents behind on child support
Frederick County launches a month long amnesty starting August 1 to help noncustodial parents catch up on arrears without contempt of court. Susan Wilkens of the State's Attorney's Child Support Division expects 700 to 1,000 parents to respond, with three evening sessions in Frederick and Thurmont to negotiate lump sums or increased payments. After amnesty, strict enforcement with six month jail terms and purge bonds to reduce arrearage will begin in September.

Arrest Made in Mount St Marys Student Slaying
Baltimore police charged 20 year old William Stewart Jr with first degree murder and a weapons violation for the July 14 shooting of Patrick Cawley a Mount St Marys College student. Stewart allegedly shot Cawley during a cocaine purchase near Govans Baltimore. Cawley died at Johns Hopkins after being found in his car. Autopsy noted cocaine use hours before death. A fall memorial service for Cawley was mentioned by Mount St Marys College officials.

Emmitsburg man charged after three-car crash on US 15
Frederick County man Wayne A Ridenour 20 was charged with driving while intoxicated failure to stop and yield the right of way and license restriction violation after a crash at US 15 and Creamery Road. His passengers including two teens were treated at Gettysburg Hospital and released. The other drivers Kirsten Vanverveen Charley Fields Ethan Birchard were not injured. Investigation continues.
